Well, here I am at the end of Day 1, a repeat offender in the Beck Diet Solution. This is my fourth (I think) time through the program, and I have to say that when I work it, it works. Hence the name of the blog... BeckWorks.
I'm not at my all-time highest weight, but I'm close. Too close. Nothing fits. I can't even walk the mall without huffing and puffing. I'm under a ton of stress, and I know the weight is contributing to unpleasant physical symptoms. I need to lose weight. And I WANT to, too.
This time through, I'm using the workbook along with the book, "The Beck Diet Solution." I just saw that Judith Beck has recently released a new book, "The Complete Beck Diet for Life," and I'm considering purchasing it. She says it includes a diet that she has developed, and that should be worth a look-see.
So Day 1 has gone pretty well, everything considered. It's Sunday, and you can't eat IN church, but there's that whole table of goodies out in the foyer. I avoided them. Good for me! In fact, I cooked and ate breakfast before worship -- 2 slices of light wheat toast, 1/4 cup egg-beaters, 1 serving of Light Miracle Whip, and a small plum tomato. Quite tasty. And satisfying. Didn't even give that home made banana bread (or whatever it was) a second look.
Lunch was a small chili from Wendy's with 3 packs of crackers and a Diet Coke. And I was going to have a snack mid-afternoon, but decided on a nap instead. Good choice. Dinner out was a grilled chicken breast, two helpings of waaaay-over-cooked veggies, and a salad with half a serving of blue cheese dressing.
Now I know that losing weight is simply a matter of eating less and exercising more. So I decided to get a jump (not literally, of course) on the exercise bit, and headed out for a bike ride this afternoon. That was before the nap. I had a nice ride, but lost my balance trying to get off the bike, and fell and cracked my head. No blood, but definitely a goose egg. And as the day has worn on, I'm feeling the fall in several other places, too... What is it they say? "No pain, no gain!" Should have thought of that earlier -- I don't want to GAIN, anyway!
So now it's the end of the day, and I haven't snacked once -- an amazing feat. No cookies, no ice cream, no pretzels, no candy... wow! I'm feeling quite proud of myself, and that's a good note to end on.
